County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust (CDDFT) Chief Executive, Sue Jacques has announced the decision to retire in May next year.
Having served as Chief Executive for more than 10 years, Sue has been a driving force behind the Trust’s progress and success, and this announcement marks the end of a significant chapter for the organisation.
Throughout her tenure, Sue has led the Trust through both challenges and achievements.
From the unprecedented demands of the COVID-19 pandemic to numerous innovations and developments, her leadership has been defined by a focus on improving patient care and experience.
What has remained constant throughout has been the dedication and commitment of the Trust to the communities it serves.
Sue has expressed her gratitude to the many colleagues, partners, and stakeholders with whom she has worked over the years.
She recognises the valuable contributions these relationships have made in achieving shared goals for the benefit of local communities across County Durham and Darlington.
Collaboration has been a cornerstone of the Trust’s achievements, and Sue has highlighted the importance of these partnerships in delivering the best outcomes for patients.
Reflecting on her decision, Sue shared that she feels proud of what has been accomplished during her time at CDDFT.
With the Trust preparing to embark on the new national NHS 10-year plan, she believes now is the right time to hand over the reins to a new leader who can guide the organisation through the next stage of its journey.

Recruitment for Sue’s successor will begin this month, with plans in place to ensure a smooth handover process to maintain stability and continuity for the Trust, its staff, and the communities it serves.
Over the coming months, Sue will continue to engage with teams and services, as she has always valued the opportunity to see first-hand the exceptional work being delivered.
