We're proud to announce the installation of state-of-the-art mammography equipment, the Siemens Revelation system, in a specially created mammography suite at the University Hospital of North Durham. This investment in both the equipment and the mammography suite reflects the Trust’s ongoing commitment to enhancing patient care and improving diagnostic services within the Trust.

The new mammography technology not only provides superior imaging, allowing for improved diagnostics and better outcomes for patients, but also offers increased comfort and flexibility during procedures. Patients undergoing biopsies now have the option to lie down—something previously not possible with older equipment. This enhanced comfort can make a significant difference, especially during longer procedures.

This new setting offers an improved environment, designed to provide a more comfortable and positive patient experience and already the team is already receiving positive feedback with patient commenting that the “the new room provides a much better experience” and that it is “very spacious and airy, a much better experience”.

Dr Julie Cox, Consultant Radiologist at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are delighted with the new equipment and new space in which to provide this vital service. We are able to offer an enhanced patient experience, improved image quality and our patients can have the utmost confidence in their care as we benefit from the latest state of the art equipment.

“This is also an important development for our team as we have created an improved working environment and access to the latest technology to support accurate and timely breast cancer screening and diagnosis.”

Breast cancer screening is crucial for both women and men, and this upgrade on the existing high-quality equipment provision at University Hospital of North Durham reinforces the Trust’s dedication to providing the highest level of care for all patients.
