Chairman Professor Richard Scothon recently visited Sedgefield Community Hospital, spending time with staff and patients across various departments.

During his visit, Professor Scothon met with Matron Louise West, who introduced him to ward staff as well as teams from the Community Therapy and Community Nursing services.

He also engaged with Matron Steven Shires, Community Therapy Lead Jennie Doyle, and Clinical General Managers Helen Rushbrook and Paula Chapman.

In addition to meeting the team, Professor Scothon spent time in the Outpatient department, where he observed the delivery of a range of clinics.

The department provides a variety of specialist services, including ENT, Rheumatology, Orthopaedics, Long Covid support, Plastic Surgery, TB clinics, Speech and Language Therapy (SALT), and Podiatry, among others.

Reflecting on his visit, Professor Scothon said: “I was very impressed with the friendliness that I was met with and the clear passion and enthusiasm from the staff.”

This visit highlights the commitment of hospital leadership to engage with staff and patients, ensuring that quality of care and patient experience remain at the heart of services provided at Sedgefield Community Hospital.
