We're making some improvements to our patient and visitor parking at the University Hospital of North Durham. This is to improve patient experience and make it easier for you to access our hospital.
Our parking will soon go paperless, meaning you will no longer need a paper ticket when entering our car park. The barriers will automatically open, allowing you to drive straight through.
We know that parking can sometimes be a source of frustration when coming to hospital, and we're always working to make the experience as smooth and straightforward as possible. As part of this, we're making a few changes to our parking system to improve ease of use and convenience for all our patients and visitors.
We appreciate your patience and support while these changes are introduced, and we apologise for any confusion as we adjust to the new arrangements.
What's changing from 1 May 2025?
- The public/visitor car park is now located in the main car park to the left as you enter the hospital site from the roundabout
- ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras have been installed – this means you no longer need to collect a ticket on entry
- You'll have 20 minutes to find a space before you will start paying for parking
- Payment is required before you leave. Just enter your registration number on the payment machine, and it will calculate how much parking you will need to pay based on your length of stay
- You'll then have 20 minutes to exit the car park after payment
- Contactless payment is available at machines and now also at the exit for added convenience.
Blue Badge Parking
Designated parking bays are available for Blue Badge holders.
To qualify for free parking, please ensure:
- You park in a designated Blue Badge space
- Your badge is clearly displayed
- You scan your Blue Badge at the payment machine before leaving.
Electric Vehicle Charging
We also have 11 electric vehicle (EV) charging points within the patient section of the car park, supporting a greener future.
We understand that changes to parking can take some time to get used to, but these improvements aim to make your visit easier, faster, and more accessible.
Thank you for your continued understanding and support.
