The Chaplaincy Team at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust is reaching out to skilled knitters for help in creating a meaningful token of comfort for families experiencing the tragic loss of a baby.
The team has launched an appeal for knitted hearts, which are offered to parents during baby loss cremations.
These handcrafted hearts, given as a small yet meaningful gesture, provide families with a tangible way to hold on to a memory.
Many parents have found solace in the simplicity and warmth of these tokens, which help them carry their child’s memory forward.
With demand outpacing supply, the Chaplaincy Team is now asking for help to replenish their stock of knitted hearts.
For those interested in supporting the initiative, a downloadable knitting pattern is available to guide them in creating hearts that meet the Chaplaincy’s specifications.
Completed knitted hearts can be delivered to the Chaplaincy office at Darlington Memorial Hospital, University Hospital of North Durham or bishop Auckland Hospital or placed directly in the chapel at each of these sites.
Thank you in advance for your generosity and compassion in supporting grieving families.
