On Tuesday, 10 December, we were delighted to welcome the Durham Freemasons to Darlington Memorial Hospital.

The visit was coordinated by our CDDFT Charity, with valuable support from colleagues on the wards who helped make the day a success.

The Freemasons generously brought yellow comfort TLC bears for dementia patients on Ward 52.

These bears, along with colouring therapy packs, provide much-needed security and companionship to patients during their stay in hospital.

In addition, they donated multi-coloured distraction bears for children on the wards and in the Children’s Emergency Department. These special bears play a vital role in calming young patients and providing distraction during important medical tests.

Lorraine, CDDFT Play Specialist, shared how impactful these thoughtful gifts are, saying: "They will make such an amazing difference to the experience of our young patients."

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Durham Freemasons and everyone who supported this visit.

Their generosity will make a meaningful difference to our patients' experiences, bringing comfort and joy during their time in hospital.

Chief Executive Sue Jacques also expressed her gratitude, highlighting the positive impact of the Freemasons’ support:"Thank you to the Durham Freemasons for all of the fundraising and donations. Their kindness, through our CDDFT Charity, will make a tremendous difference to patients and give them a bit of comfort while in hospital."
