Sue Humes Ward Manager for the Stroke Unit at University Hospital of North Durham (Ward 2) has taken on an incredible challenge to support stroke patients.

On Sunday 9 March 2025, she swapped her uniform for her running kit as she took on The Kingdom of Northumberland Coastal Ultra Run - a gruelling 54km trail stretching from the stunning backdrop of Bamburgh Castle to Druridge Bay Country Park.

This is not just a personal challenge for Sue; it’s an opportunity to give back to the patients and families who rely on the exceptional care provided by the Stroke Unit (Ward 2) at University Hospital of North Durham.

Funds raised will go directly towards enhancing stroke services, improving equipment, and supporting vital research to help survivors in their recovery.

As a dedicated healthcare professional, Sue goes above and beyond for her patients every day.

Now, she’s calling on colleagues, friends, and supporters to get behind her fundraising efforts - whether by donating or simply spreading the word.

CDDFT Charity is proud to support Sue’s journey. As the official charity for County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, we use donations to fund medical equipment, staff training, innovation, and improvements in patient care across our hospitals and community settings.
