County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust welcomes the update relating to the replacement of the existing Shotley Bridge Community Hospital announced in Parliament on Monday 20 January 2025 by the Secretary of State for Health, Mr Wes Streeting MP. It has been confirmed that the New Hospital Programme (NHP) has agreed with the Government the replacement of Shotley Bridge Community Hospital as part of Wave 1 of the New Hospital Programme.
The Trust and its partners are pleased that Shotley Bridge Community Hospital is expecting to begin on-site construction within the 2025 -2030 timeline. This is a significant step forward in realising our vision of a modern healthcare facility that meets the needs of the community for generations to come.
The Trust now needs to review and progress with the Outline Business Case and finalising the existing Project Plan. We continue to be committed to working closely with the new hospitals programme, our local authority, and the local community to ensure a seamless move to the construction phase. We look forward to actively engaging the local community and elected members as this exciting development progresses.
We would like to thank our patients, staff and stakeholders for their patience and continued support throughout this process.
