This year’s Working Carers Rights Day focuses on the theme ‘Recognising Your Rights,’ aiming to empower unpaid carers by raising awareness of their entitlements and ensuring they feel supported in their vital role.
Who Are Unpaid Carers?
An unpaid carer is anyone who provides care for a family member, friend, or neighbour without formal employment to do so.
This care could involve managing daily tasks, emotional support, or assisting with medical needs. Importantly, unpaid carers can still receive Carer’s Allowance and qualify for the role.
Understanding Your Rights
Do you know your rights as a working carer? To help carers navigate the resources and support available to them, we’ve prepared a short video explaining your rights both at work and beyond.
Visit a Working Carers Stall
To mark the occasion, Working Carers Stalls will be set up at several sites, offering information, guidance, and support to carers:
-
Thursday, 21 November:
- 10am–2pm | Outside Hollies Restaurant, Darlington Memorial Hospital
- 10am–2pm | Outside Chimneys Restaurant, Bishop Auckland Hospital
-
Wednesday, 20 November & Thursday, 21 November:
- 10am–3pm | Outside Saffreys Restaurant, University Hospital of North Durham
These stalls provide a valuable opportunity to learn about your rights, discover support networks, and connect with others who share similar experiences.
Unpaid carers make a profound impact on the lives of those they care for.
Recognising and supporting their efforts is essential, and this year’s event encourages carers to feel informed, empowered, and appreciated.
