Many know smoking causes cancer, but alcohol is also a significant risk. Classified as a Group One carcinogen, alcohol can lead to at least seven types of cancer, including bowel, breast, and throat cancers.
Just one or two drinks a day can increase this risk, whether it’s beer, wine, or spirits.
To lower health risks, experts recommend:
- Limit to 14 units a week (about six glasses of wine, six double spirits, or six pints of lager).
- Have at least three alcohol-free days a week to support recovery.
Alcohol is linked to more than 200 medical conditions, including various cancers, liver disease, and heart disease.
