A track record of successful research initiatives and clinical advancements

At County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, we pride ourselves on a robust track record of successful research initiatives and clinical advancements. Our dedicated teams of healthcare professionals, researchers, and support staff consistently explore opportunities and new ways of improving patient care and outcomes. From clinical trials to the development of innovative treatments, our efforts are driven by our commitment to quality, safe and compassionate patient care. Our teams aim to ensure that our patients benefit from the most advanced and evidence-based treatments available by fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Our partnership with one of the UK's leading universities

We have a dynamic partnership with Durham University. This collaboration brings together the clinical expertise of the Trust and the academic expertise of one of the UK's leading universities. Together, we engage in joint research projects and innovative clinical trials that look to address healthcare challenges. This partnership not only enhances our research capabilities but also provides invaluable opportunities for workforce and students to develop new skills and knowledge.
Successful collaborations already being carried out include a psychology study involving the Stroke Rehabilitation Unit at Bishop Auckland Hospital and an evaluation of long Covid consultancy involving the University's department of Mathematical Sciences. We're also working with the University to develop a bespoke CPD programme called 'Bridging the Gap' which will see University experts help develop the research skills of CDDFT clinicians in the three key areas of qualitative research methods, quantitative research methods and funding bids.
