Darlington Memorial Hospital has purchased a comfortable chair/bed with £750, donated by homebuilder Taylor Wimpey North Yorkshire.
The chair/bed will be based on ward 42 and Sister Maureen Flatman, ward manager, comments: "We have many relatives who wish to stay over, especially those of our younger patients, and we're happy for them to do so. We're delighted that this chair/bed means they can be comfortable and it will be especially useful for families when the patient needs to be with us for more than a few days.
"The benefits of a good night's sleep can make all the difference at a difficult time for families, who we often get to know well."
