County Durham Nurses Win National Awards

A pair of inspirational Trust nurses have been awarded the prestigious title of Queen's Nurse…

Lead Nurse and Head of Clinical Governance, Julie Clennell, and District Nurse Team Lead, Suzanne Vickers, both from County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, were awarded the title of Queen's Nurse by the Queen's Nursing Institute at its recent awards ceremony.

The ceremony, held in Marble Arch in London, recognises the hard work of nurses in the UK, with judges looking for candidates who have demonstrated exceptional integrity, honesty and compassion, while delivering the highest quality care to benefit not only their patients, but also the patient's family, carers and peers.

The prestigious title of Queen's Nurse is reserved for practitioners who work as an inspiring role model to colleagues, as well as demonstrating a commitment to learning, leadership and the development of community nursing. Queen's Nurses are entitled to access free learning and development programmes along with bursary funding to further develop their skills.

Both Julie and Suzanne were presented with their awards by Viv Bennett, Director of Nursing at the Department of Health and Public Health England. Julie said: "It was a real honour and privilege to have been awarded the title of Queen's Nurse. Achieving the title will continue to underpin the work being undertaken in the Care Group and wider organisation and help to support the Trust going forward."

"It feels fantastic to be rewarded for the work we do each day," said Suzanne, "it's always
nice to be recognised and even better when it's with such a prestigious award. I'm really proud to work for one of the largest care providers in the country and to work alongside such talented colleagues."

County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest integrated care providers in England, serving a population of around 600,000 people across County Durham, Darlington, North Yorkshire, the Tees Valley and South Tyneside. The Trust brings together hospital, community services and health and wellbeing services to provide high quality and seamless care for patients.

'I have to compliment everyone on their pleasant persona and their expertise and knowledge. By the end of the 5 days, I did not feel as though I had been in a hospital ward and was very relaxed.'
