Diabetes Support Group Launched

A healthy resource centre in Easington is responding to local feedback by launching a new diabetes support group.

Healthworks is launching a new diabetes support group which will start this month and will continue to meet monthly.

Healthworks is providing the opportunity for people with diabetes to join a free support service where members of the community can meet others with this condition.

The diabetes support group will be held at Healthworks, with the first session taking place on Thursday June 7 from 1.30pm to 3.00pm.  During this session there will be a nurse present to give advice on taking medications as well as diet and nutrition.

Amy McKenna, County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust at Healthworks said: "Support groups are so important as they help to provide information, encouragement and support to others in similar situations.

"They allow people to share information and share their own experiences.   Participating in support groups can help people to deal with their problems more effectively, and overall be provided with the feeling that they are not alone.

"We are launching the group in response to feedback from the local community after we asked them what other services and activities they would like us to provide."

Healthworks, the healthy living centre, works in partnership with NHS County Durham and Darlington, County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, Northumbrian Water and Durham County Council.

Healthworks is located in Easington, County Durham and provides a wide range of health information, activities and support to those living in Easington, and the surrounding area.

Anyone interested in the support group should contact Healthworks on 0191 5274150, or pop into the centre located on Paradise Lane, Easington.
