Durham Hospital Radio award winner meets MP

In April we shared the wonderful news that Eileen Thompson, one of our amazing volunteers with Durham Hospital Radio, won two awards at this year's National Hospital Radio Awards.

Eileen has been a volunteer presenter at Durham for 11 years and won Silver in the Best Female Presenter category and Bronze for the Best Speech package.

We're incredibly proud of all our volunteers and recently held two 'Thank you' events for them as we celebrated National Volunteers Week.

MP for North Durham, Kevan Jones, was keen to meet Eileen and thank her personally for all she does to brighten the days of our inpatients and (along with CEO Sue Jacques), came along to the radio station last Friday.

He said, "The volunteers at Durham Hospital Radio do a great job keeping patients entertained. I was delighted to meet the team and to congratulate Eileen Thompson from Chester-Le-Street on winning two national awards.

"These awards are a well-deserved recognition of her long-standing commitment to the station, and the high quality of the broadcasts produced in Durham."

'In recent times, I have utilised admissions to Richardson for respite direct from my fracture clinic, even at weekends. I have never worked anywhere with this efficiency before - it is reassuring and invaluable for the patient.'
