Dr Coleman said: "I am really excited to be joining CDDFT as a Public Health Consultant.  My role will involve addressing health inequalities in health care and supporting the prevention agenda.  I am new to CDDFT, but have lived and worked in the North East my whole life. I qualified as a doctor from Newcastle University in 2013, since then I've worked for a range of organisations including local councils and other acute trusts.

"Our health is influenced by many factors including our personal characteristics, where we live and the environment we grow up in.  Health inequalities are ultimately about differences in people's health due to causes which are unfair and systematic.

Dr Coleman's role will be looking at how, as a healthcare organisation, we can provide care which helps address some of these inequalities through initiatives and positive changes to reduce differences in access, experience and outcomes of healthcare.

Dr Coleman added: "Another big part of my role will be looking to prevent ill health.  As we face unprecedented demand on our services, it's vital we focus on reducing the need for healthcare through improving people's health, and prevention is essential to this."

'The treatment I have received from all the staff has been excellent and could you extend my thanks to them all. A very thankful and relieved patient'.
