chairman visits

Trust Chairman, Professor Richard Scothon recently met with staff based at Healthworks in Easington, East Durham, one of our four Adult Wellbeing Services community Hubs across County Durham.

Richard, accompanied by Trust Governor Christopher Boyd, met with staff and volunteers including from the Wellbeing for the Time Being, Joining the Dots, Wellbeing for life and the community falls teams.

They also visited  Healthworks' Community Gym, talking to staff and members of the public before dropping into one of the art therapy sessions to meet volunteers and participants.

Richard and Christopher were very impressed to see first-hand the life changing support people can be given in the heart of their own community and the joined up and preventative approach to healthcare the teams play in supporting the acute work of the Trust.

Our Chairman, alongside non-executive director David Jackson, also visited ward 11 at Darlington Memorial Hospiutal last week.

This hardworking team focuses on caring for patients having elective surgical procedures.

Richard and David were impressed by the hard work and dedication of staff members, especially during the recent winter pressures, by supporting with the opening of 13 extra beds.

This is alongside ensuring patients having planned surgeries still receive optimal care with minimal disturbances and very few cancellations.

'In recent times, I have utilised admissions to Richardson for respite direct from my fracture clinic, even at weekends. I have never worked anywhere with this efficiency before - it is reassuring and invaluable for the patient.'
