New Nordic Walking programme launched

Nordic Walking is a whole body exercise which is associated with a number of health benefits. It makes use of specially designed poles to enhance the natural walking experience.  It is a fun and social form of exercise and has been proven to burn 46% more calories than normal walking.

Get Active has recently set up a series of Nordic Walking Introduction Courses. The four week courses are FREE of charge and a great opportunity to learn the correct Nordic Walking technique. At the end of the four week course you then have the opportunity to progress into the weekly Nordic Walking group.

The sessions take place at the Pavilion in Peterlee from 1:30 - 2:30pm.  The next introduction course is due to start on May 1st 2012.

For more information on the Nordic Walking programme or to book a place please contact Lauren Lang (Health Improvement Practitioner) on 0191 5692847 or via email

'In recent times, I have utilised admissions to Richardson for respite direct from my fracture clinic, even at weekends. I have never worked anywhere with this efficiency before - it is reassuring and invaluable for the patient.'
