Patient and Public Information Notice

Ensuring that our wards and departments are kept clean is vital in preventing the spread of infections and is something we take very seriously.

In addition to our routine cleaning programmes, we also carry out a regular 'deep cleaning' programme. This is a more concentrated programme of cleaning during which all beds, furniture and equipment are steam cleaned.

Between June and September 2018, we are carrying out a deep cleaning programme including a number of wards at University Hospital of North Durham.

For the best results, this kind of cleaning programme needs to be undertaken while a ward is not being used for patient care.

Therefore, between June and September, this will involve some ward moves and may include patients being temporarily relocated - as appropriate to their needs - during this period. This may be to a different ward area or to one of our other hospitals.

Any proposed changes or moves will be fully discussed with patients and loved ones to ensure minimal disruption to patient care and to ensure our patients continue to receive the best experience.

We thank you for your understanding and support in helping this important infection control programme to run smoothly.

If you have any queries or concerns please speak with one of our ward managers who will be happy to help you.

'I have to compliment everyone on their pleasant persona and their expertise and knowledge. By the end of the 5 days, I did not feel as though I had been in a hospital ward and was very relaxed.'
