President of Royal College of Pathologists visits Pathology

Mr Mike Osborn, the President of the Royal College of Pathologists recently visited our Pathology and Mortuary services.

He had tours of Blood Sciences and the Mortuary at Darlington Memorial Hospital, followed by a trip to Blood Sciences, Microbiology and Cell Pathology at University Hospital of North Durham.

Mr Osborn noted that we have a highly motivated colleagues demonstrating excellence in training and education across the disciplines, and that we are very much a Pathology family, dedicated to quality of care.

He was especially impressed with our ongoing work to develop staff roles, which he felt was key to providing resilient services, noting the great success of apprenticeships in our labs.

We showcased new equipment and lab areas, but our best assets - our staff - was the focus of the visit.

'I cannot commend the clinic enough. It is marvellous we have this service at all and well done to you all.'
