Schools raise money for scanner appeal

Mowden 2018

The appeal that has brought new MRI scanners to Darlington Memorial & Bishop Auckland Hospitals has received a boost from the Federation of Mowden Schools, in Darlington.

Activities including sports days, non-uniform days and family fun days have collected £1,085 for the appeal.  Head teacher, Peter King, also got involved, adopting the appeal as his charity when taking part in last month's Great North Run.

The class ambassadors for both schools presented a cheque to Pat Chambers, Charity Development Manager at County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust.

Peter King, said, 'We all deserve to benefit from the very best in health technology. When Pat came to talk to our students about the Appeal and the difference the new MRI scanner makes by helping consultants with earlier diagnosis of many life threatening and life limiting conditions, I knew we had to help. I am delighted with the enthusiasm the students, their families, friend and our staff have shown in raising this money.'

Pat Chambers, said, 'We are very grateful to for this support. We're still seeking donations for our appeal and would love to hear from anyone who can help us, as Peter and the students have done, as we head towards the final weeks of fundraising before the appeal closes on 20th December 2018. We're fortunate that, thanks to the generosity of manufacturer, Philips, both scanners were installed earlier in the year, so patients could benefit from them, while our fundraising continued.

"If you can help in any way, through a donation, by fundraising or volunteering, please get in touch by calling our charity team on 01325 743781 or email me ."

'I have to compliment everyone on their pleasant persona and their expertise and knowledge. By the end of the 5 days, I did not feel as though I had been in a hospital ward and was very relaxed.'
