Staff Awards - Shining Star Award - Clinical

Shining Star award - clinical

Claire Lumley, health care assistant, in the emergency department at University Hospital of North Durham, thought she was attending a training session and was stunned into silence when, on entering the room she found Trust Chairman, Professor Paul Keane, and Chief Executive, Sue Jacques, waiting to surprise her with the news that she is this year's winner of the Shining Start Award - Clinical.

Amanda Robinson, nominated Claire because she repeatedly goes above and beyond what's expected of her, with the sole purpose of ensuring her patients get the very best experience in our care.  Amanda says that Claire is kind, caring, compassionate and always has a smile on her face.  She never has a bad word to say about anyone.  Amanda added, "It's my belief that Claire is one of a kind and if there were more people like Claire the world would be a better place."

Professor Keane, said to Claire, "You are clearly one of those people who thinks on their feet and makes the difference by putting your patients first.  You take the initiative when someone is in need.  You're highly regarded by your team and should be very proud of yourself."

'I feel it is important to relay my experience back to let the staff know they are doing a brilliant job! I would like them to know I appreciated all they did for myself, my family and our beautiful baby girl.'
