If you want to give up the ash in favour of more cash, why not join more than a million people who stop smoking each year on No Smoking Day, Wednesday 13th March.
This year's theme is 'swap fags for swag' and urges smokers to consider the financial benefits of quitting. The average 20 a day smoker would save over £7 a day, £49 a week, £210 a month and £2555 a year if they were to quit.
More than 60% of smokers want to stop and plan a quit date yet a recent survey suggests that only 20% are aware of the support available from the Stop Smoking Service. More than a third of smokers planning a quit go 'cold turkey' without the use of any support or medication but this has been shown to be the least effective method as 97% of smokers who try this approach will be smoking again within one year. The Stop Smoking Service provides an evidence based service that utilises both medication and behavioural support to help people stop smoking for good. In the last 15 months over 200 members of staff at UHND & DMH accessed support from our Specialist Stop Smoking Advisors based on site and 68% successfully quitting smoking.
