#TeamCDDFT welcomes first cohort of Army Medical technicians

Army Cohort

On Monday 13 August 2023, we welcomed our first cohort of Army Combat Medical Technicians (CMTs) into unscheduled care at Darlington Memorial Hospital. Our Ministry of Defence (MOD) colleagues are commencing a 4 week rotational programme of training in partnership, with CDDFT staff to provide experience and development for their substantive medical technician roles.

Jayne McClelland, Associate Director of Nursing for Unscheduled Care, has said that unscheduled care is an excellent learning environment, which will support our military colleagues to gain valuable experience and skills which will benefit their ongoing professional development.

Noel Scanlon, Executive Director of Nursing, said: "We would like to wish the first cohort of military personnel well in their training with us. CMTs will gain essential skills in venepuncture, clinical observations, IV therapy, administration of medication and other advanced skills which are vital when tending wounded troops on the battlefield. I am certain they will also provide a useful contribution to team work and morale in our busy emergency department. We look forward to continuing to support our MOD colleagues with their development in the future."
