Universal mask wearing stood down at County Durham and Darlington hospitals

Ask to mask poster

In response to numbers of COVID-19 cases stabilising, as of Monday 30 January 2023, the requirement of face masks to be worn in clinical areas of our hospitals has been stood down with immediate effect.

While patients, visitors and our colleagues will no longer be required to wear a mask, we will continue to support the 'ask to mask' campaign and respect the choice of a patient or visitor to ask our colleagues to wear a mask if this would help make them feel more comfortable.

Current visiting restrictions as outlined on the latest visiting information section on our website remain unchanged.

'Every aspect of my emergency care was dealt with quickly, efficiently and professionally with full explanations and compassion from all staff involved'.
