Water Lid hydration project

water project.jpg

Maintaining sufficient hydration is essential for health as dehydration can lead to falls, confusion, dizziness, skin breakdown, kidney failure and even death.

At County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust we are dedicated to promoting the health of our patients and the positive outcomes good hydration promotes.

The 'Water Lid' Hydration project has been developed by Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and is already successfully implemented within some of our Frailty areas.

This projects works in cohesion with and supports the Drip or Drink project which is already being utilised Trust-wide to assist in early identification of patients at risk of dehydration.

We are now ready to roll out the 'Water Lid' hydration project to the rest of the Trust and from Monday 17 April, ward 52 at Darlington Memorial Hospital will begin promoting and monitoring the hydration of their patients using the red, amber, green, water jug lids.

Using traffic light lid colours will show how much patients are drinking.

'I cannot commend the clinic enough. It is marvellous we have this service at all and well done to you all.'
