I am one of 18 Gynaecologist/Obstetricians in the trust.
I am lead clinican for Gynaecological Cancer for the trust and Lead Clinician for colposcopy for Durham/Shotley Bridge.
I am one of 2 designated endometrial cancer surgeons for the trust.
I have 2 rapid access oncology clinics (for abnormal bleeding pelvic masses/cysts and suspected cancers)and a colposcopy clinic each week.
I run an out-patient hysteroscopy clinic as part of these services every week. I also run a weekly gynaecology & colposcopy Multi-Disciplinary Meeting with pathology/cytology/radiology) which other specialties frequently refer to for advice.
Once per month I have a vulval disease clinic with referrals from GP's dermatology & GUM.
I also supervise ovarian screening in Durham and have good links with the regional genetic services and other local/regional oncology departments.
As part of my oncology/colposcopy role I am a National Peer Reviewer for other units.
I am undergoing further training in advanced laparoscopic surgery to assist in my oncology role.
About once per month I perform joint surgical procedures with other specialties (colorectal urology plastic & reconstructive) for both benign & malignant disease.
Currently I have gained approval for recruitment into 5 national gyanecology/colposcopy-related trials. I also work with a number of specialist nurses in the above areas. In addition on a monthly basis I attend the women's prison to see and treat colposcopy/gynaecology patients.
