Dr Stephen Andrew Mitchell

Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist

I qualified in Oxford in 1988 and after general medical training in the West Country I trained in gastroenterology and hepatology on the North West Thames rotation including St. Mary's Hospital London and finally in Oxford.

I have performed research and published papers on the genetics and immunology of liver disease and on irritable bowel syndrome.

My special interests include autoimmune liver disease and the management of the consequences of chronic liver disease.

I am the trusts lead clinician for alcohol services.

Along with my colleagues in GastroenterologyGastrointestinal Surgery and Radiology I provide a comprehensive service in both luminal Gastroenterology and Hepatology supported by a team of excellent Nurse Specialists including the Alcohol Liaison Nurse.
