The
Clinical Measurements section provides services to
gastroenenterology, obstetrics & gynaecology, urology and a
sleep service.
Our
oesophageal physiology clinics perform high resolution manometry,
and 24 hour reflux assessments using pH or pH/impedance based
reflux measurements. These tests allow us to assess oesophageal
motility disorders and the degree of gastro-oesophageal reflux, and
whether this is the cause of reported symptoms.
Ano-rectal
physiology clinics for patients with constipation involve
ano-rectal manometry and rectal sensitivity tests. These allow us
to investigate the function of the anal sphincters, sensitivity to
the presence of stool and the ability to co-ordinate the muscles of
the pelvic floor.
We
also support consultant led clinics for faecal incontinence, which
additionally involve tests of anal sensitivity and nerve
conduction, plus ultrasound studies of the anal
sphincters.
We
host urodynamics cystometrogram studies for uro-gynaecology
patients and also support video-csytometrogram studies in the X-ray
department for males and females. Both of these clinics are useful
in helping to identify the causes and degree of urinary
problems.
The
sleep service is concerned with the issue and servicing of
Continuous Positive Airways Pressure (CPAP) machines and overnight
oximetry studies, for patients with sleep
apnoea.
