Outpatient appointments

If you feel more comfortable bringing a relative or friend with you to your appointment, you’re welcome to.

To help us help you, it would be useful if you could bring the following with you, for your appointment:

  • Your appointment letter or card
  • The name and address of your GP
  • Any medication you are taking, including any prescription or over the counter medicines
  • Spectacles and any walking or hearing aids
  • Our parking and shops accept both cash and card payment methods. You may wish to bring a small amount of cash with you - please don’t bring large amounts or other valuables as we cannot accept responsibility for lost items
  • Before your appointment, you may find it helpful to make a note of any questions you would like to ask your consultant or other health care professional
  • Don’t forget to check your appointment letter to see if you need to bring anything else with you, like a urine sample

Inpatient advice

Below are some of the main things you might need to bring with you when you come into hospital. There may of course be other items not listed that you feel you also need to bring. If you have any queries about what to bring please contact the ward or department for advice.

  • Toiletries and towels – no aerosols please as they tend to trigger our sensitive smoke alarms
  • Clothing - nightwear including a dressing gown if you have one. Day wear is also useful, including shoes. There’s evidence that suggests wearing your usual clothes and well fitting, comfortable shoes or slippers encourages mobility and helps speed up recovery. Depending on the length of your stay, please ask a relative or friend to bring you fresh clothing and to take care of your laundry
  • You may wish to bring a small amount of cash or another method for making small purchases during your stay. Please don’t bring anything valuable as we cannot accept responsibility for your valuables or other property
  • You may wish to bring something to occupy your time such as a book – and a phone charger if you use a mobile phone
  • If you are currently taking any prescribed medication, please bring them with you in their original containers – including insulin
  • If you use hearing aids, false teeth, spectacles or other visual aids, please bring these with you.
