What to expect

At each appointment, you’ll see a doctor and at least one other member of the team.  Appointments may last 60-90 minutes.

Please download your pump or blood glucose meter to Glooko (or CareLink if you use a Medtronic pump) or email a MyLife report if this applies to you, on the day of clinic or the day before. This helps keep your appointment to time and ensures we have the information to make insulin changes.

  • Height and weight to track growth
  • HbA1c test. This tells us how your diabetes has been over the past three months.  A healthy HbA1c target is less than 48.  A reading of over 69 is high.  A high HbA1c reading can lead to health complications.  We need regular contact to support you if your child has a high HbA1c.
  • Blood pressure if you are over 12 years old

  • To remove socks and shoes for a foot check.  We check for any new numbness or changes in sensation
  • To give a urine sample to check your kidneys are healthy
  • To do an extra finger prick for a thyroid test
