About our service
We are a confidential support and occupational health service, specifically tailored for Primary Care staff in County Durham and Darlington. We provide a range of occupational health services, including:
- Pre-employment health assessment
- Management and self-referrals
- Needlestick injuries, reporting of incident and follow up advice
- Needlestick awareness training
- Self-referral to a counselling service (please contact us for more details)
Our team of dedicated professionals include occupational health nurses, an occupational health and wellbeing business partner, service co-ordinators, a customer care administrator and access to occupational health physicians.
You can access our service if you are employed by a GP medical practice or you have an NHS contract and are currently working within County Durham and Darlington.

Our GP Advisors are experienced medical GPs who have a particular interest and the relevant training in Practitioner Health. Our aim is to provide a sensitive, easily accessible and confidential advice, help and support service for primary care doctors, dentists and their staff in the County Durham and Darlington area. Types of difficulties presenting include:
- Stress, anxiety, depression, other common mental health disorders
- Professional burn out
- Alcohol or other substance dependency issues
- Physical illness
- Work place disputes
- Concern about colleagues
- Personal, family, social difficulties
- Complaints
We offer a range of services, including:
- Confidential telephone helpline access to GP Advisors
- 1:1 meetings with GP advisors
- Mentoring
- Access to professional counselling
- Signposting and support in treating drug and alcohol problems - treatment, rehab and longer term support
- Regular peer support meetings
- Advice and support with professional Regulatory body enquiries and investigations
