EPR TRAINING - ORDER COMMS

Please see the userguides and videos on the right-hand side of the page.

Blood sciences and General top tips

  • Use your favourites folder for quick access to commonly requested blood tests
  • One label for each bottle/swab, please don't add more than one label to a specimen
  • If more than one test is being requested, add all tests prior to clicking Done. This will ensure all relevant tests can be in the same bottle where applicable and on the correct number
  • To collect the samples you need to choose specimen collection
    • For each sample you need to right click on specimen line and click print label
    • Then click again on this area and mark the specimen as collected - if you don't do this the order will not come into the laboratory
  • The labels have the colour of bottle they are associate with written on there. Match the colour stated to the bottle type. If you don't the whole order will be rejected
  • No labels should be able to be reprinted if you have followed the process correctly
  • Don't send request forms with these samples - we have all the information on the label
  • If you can't find a test on the EPR, send a paper request

Microbiology specific

  • Please be specific when selecting the test. For example do not just call every swab a general wound swab, there is a specific test code available based on where the swab has been taken from.
  • Please only select one test per sample. If multiple tests are required on one sample please contact the Microbiology department to discuss whether this is appropriate/possible.

Histology and cytology and andrology process

  • Request 'Histology / cytology / andrology' in request/care plans section as you would any other laboratory order
  • Complete all fields for each specimen pot sent
  • Add your printer details and the other clinical information into the electronic form
  • Once you have signed the order then this will print the order requisition/order form to accompany samples
  • All samples must be sent with the printed request form attached

Transfusion requesting (Group and Screen)

  • Orders can be placed on Cerner EPR
  • A requisition form must be provided with the sample. Refer to user guide on how to do this
  • Samples must be handwritten and a copy of the order requisition must accompany the sample - Record the date and time the sample was taken on the bottom of the printed order requisition
  • There will be further information on transfusion ordering and administration in due course

There is also a tab (click back to main menu) that has phlebotomy guides - both inpatient and outpatient

Kind regards

'In recent times, I have utilised admissions to Richardson for respite direct from my fracture clinic, even at weekends. I have never worked anywhere with this efficiency before - it is reassuring and invaluable for the patient.'
